Perusall

Perusall is a “social annotation” tool that allows you and your students to engage collaboratively with course content. As they read texts, watch videos, or view images, they can make comments, ask questions, take notes, respond to prompts, and so on, right within the text, video, or image, and their classmates can read and respond to those posts. This makes the activity less of a solitary exercise students must undertake on their own and more of a collective experience, facilitating better comprehension and critical engagement with the course content and building a community of inquiry.

 

Moreover, Perusall can automatically grade students based on factors such as active reading time, viewing the entire assignment, and the quality of their contributions, as assessed by AI, and these grades feed directly back into Canvas. This provides motivation to complete the assignments and to engage the material thoughtfully and critically, while reducing the instructor’s grading workload.
